June Renie Law Library

The June Renie Law Library of the Hugh Wooding Law School is housed on two floors in a separate physical unit of the Law School’s building. The primary purpose of the law library is to satisfy the teaching and research needs of staff and students at the Hugh Wooding Law School. The law library is also cognisant of the legal information needs of the region and through a variety of services, including fee-based services, the resources of the law library are made available to legal practitioners and interested Government and private agencies throughout the Caribbean region.

The law library is currently in the process of computerizing its holdings along with the holdings of the law libraries of its sister institutions, the Norman Manley Law School and the Eugene Dupuch Law School. When completed, this system will provide seamless access to the holdings of the three law libraries of Council in online, real time format.

The Collection
The collection dates back to 1973 when the Law School commenced operations. Today it is a comprehensive collection of the region’s output of primary and secondary legal materials. Primary material is contained in (i) approximately 17,000 judgments at July 2004 that have been delivered in the various courts of the region and (ii) the collection of legislation that is representative of all West Indian territories. The Law Library strives at all times to ensure that these collections are kept up to date. Texts, treatises, the newspaper clippings collection, law reports and legal journals from Caribbean and other Commonwealth countries are also included in the collection. The law library subscribes to the legal online services of Westlaw and LexisNexis and staff and students are provided with unique passwords to these services.
